Centre for Languages and Inter-Communication

In the Spring and Summer of 2025, CLIC will welcome students from universities in Asia and Europe to attend courses held at Cambridge in collaboration with UniHive (www.unihive.education).

As part of the collaboration, CLIC has been offered places for 10 of its students to go and spend 2 weeks on an educational trip in China, also co-organised by UniHive. The trips will take place during two periods in 2025, and are tentatively scheduled on the following dates and places (please note that this is a tentative schedule and the final arrangements may vary):

1. Easter trip to Shanghai, Xi’an and Wuhan: 22dn/23rd March – 5th/6th April 2025, for a group of 5 students

2. Summer trip to Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu: Dates to be confirmed, for a group of 5 students

During both trips, students will visit several universities and schools in China and participate in a full schedule of academic workshops and cultural experiences. All trip-related expenses in China, including meals, shared accommodation, and the entire programme of activities, will be fully covered. Additionally, further funding of up to £800 per student is available to support visa applications and international flights. A provisional programme schedule will be available in early November 2024.

Application

Students wishing to apply should email ENG CLIC clic-enquiries@eng.cam.ac.uk by 22nd November 2024, attaching the duly completed form (that can be downloaded in Word or PDF format) and an up-to-date CV.

Please note the application form should include a personal statement of up to 250 words in which you should explain why you want to participate in the trip, what you feel you will learn from being part of it, and what you can personally bring to it.

Priority will be given to CUED students currently taking a language course in CLIC or who completed a language course with us in previous years.

We are hoping to inform the selected students by 2nd December 2024. They will then have until 6th December 2024 to register and pay a deposit of £200 (this will be reimbursed on return from the trip).

A confirmation email with visa application guidelines will be sent to selected students, and an information meeting will be held with the organisers on 28th January 2025.
