Support During Department Shutdown

The Centre for Languages and Inter-Communication (CLIC) is still here for you.

We wanted to let you know about the provision we have decided to put in place to help you carry on with your language learning and communication skills development.

Summer language courses

CLIC's usual summer foreign language courses will be running online this year.  Please see our Summer Courses page for details

Language Zoom lunches

We will be offering language lunches until the end of the academic year, starting from 20th April. These will be available in English, French, German and Chinese. The sessions will be held on Zoom. We usually recommend these from an Upper-Intermediate level but feel free to pop in and see, you might be able to pick some of it even if you are studying the language at a lower level. Please see here for the weekly schedule and joining instructions.

Language 1-2-1 coaching

For those of you who want to make the most of the lockdown to pick up a new language or carry on learning one you already know, we are happy to provide some coaching sessions. Depending on the language you want to improve, the language coach may also be able to recommend resources specific to that language but these sessions will focus primarily on establishing your aims, developing some learning techniques and keeping your motivation up! Please contact David Tual ( in the first instance to express interest.

Language 1-2-1 support

If some of you have a specific reason to learn one of the 5 foreign languages we offer (Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish), we can offer some 1-2-1 sessions to help you progress. The content of the sessions will be tailored to your profile and your needs. We cannot guarantee availability of this service as it is very resource consuming, but we will do our best to support you one way or another. Please contact David Tual ( in the first instance to express interest.

English language support

This aspect of our provision was already partly available online (via 1-2-1s) and all our supervisions will now be done via Skype, Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Please contact Nicola Cavaleri ( for queries about the English language support.

Skills development sessions

Zoom-based workshops or 1-2-1s to explore different aspects of living and working in both exciting and challenging international environments. These sessions will guide you in better understanding your communication profile and preferences, allowing you to adapt to a range of situations and contexts as well as to various interlocutors’ profiles, including intercultural aspects. Please contact Kasia ( if you are interested.

If you have any general queries about the above or what support CLIC could offer, email and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
